Demonstration in Slough 1998

car park 42Kb

The demonstration took place on the morning of Saturday 12th of December 98. Despite a 7.30AM starting time there was a good turn out of bikes. Mainly from Windsor & District MAG but also from Reading and High Wycombe (and a few other places). Around 40 to 50 bikes took part in the demonstration in the open-air car park in Herschel street where the market used to be. We parked up, one bike per car parking spot and bought our tickets. Turns out we could have left it until about 8.15 as the car park was still pretty empty at that time.

The local and national press took a few pictures, the local radio station was contacted and we handed out leaflets to people having problems parking. Most of the people were understanding and agreed with our view point although we had the odd one who was upset (click here for info). We hope they will be ringing the council and complaining on Monday.

People started leaving at 11.30 when our tickets expired. There was little point in continuing as we had got the press down and made our point.

The next step is to respond to the letter we had from the council.

Latest information:

20th February 1999. Sarah is now in contact with Slough Council and is arranging a meeting. Letters will no longer be posted here.

13th April 1999. Clive came to our meeting to read out details of the meeting he had with Slough Council and other interested parties on the 12th of April. Things are looking good, they have agreed to several motorcycle parking areas. More details soon.

21st September 1999. Sarah wrote to the council a few weeks ago to see what is happening but had no reply. There now is some motorcycle parking available outside the Queensmere where we used to able to park but it's not marked as motorcycle parking and we are not sure if this was done by the council or the company that owns that car park. This parking area was mentioned in the councils first letter. Sarah's going to do another letter and we are considering another demo one year after the first one.

11th November 1999. The parking mentioned above turned out to be a decorative rail in the location of the old motorcycle parking. So we're doing another demo! Click here for the latest info.
