FEMA Festival 2001
Dear motorcycic friends,
Welcome to our first "Festival of European Motorcycling". The incredible
cooperation and the open mind of the mayor, the district council and the
entire community of Koksijde, have made it possible for us, motorcyclists,
to organize this spectacular event. I would like to thank these people and
not just for keeping their promise. Knowing that the federal government
came close to put an end to this festival, we realize that our credibility is
at stake here. we have to proove that we care about safe riding. I am
counting on you to make the best of this festival, Don't let yourselves in
with that "Macho" behaviour, act calmly and above all ride calmly. Nobody
is impressed by noise, especially not the thousands of people living in
Koksijde and the town's visiting tourists.
Just because we got this warm welcome, it doesn't mean that we do not
have to respect the traffic rules. Let us set an example for the govern-
ment. We, who have always been looked upon as motorcycle trash, we do
not attract hooligans, we do not need thousands of safety guards just to
get a large audience. I am sure that you are about to embark on a great
and safe weekend.

Speech of welcome by the mayor
I would like to give a warm welcome to all motorcyclists present at the Festival of European Motorcycling here in Koksijde, it is an honour to our hospitable city to have you here!
Our town council was indeed enthusiastic to accept the proposition of Motorcycle Action Group Belgium (MAG), with Theo Beeldens as its figure-head, to have this important motorcycle fest here in Koksijde. And why not? Several members of the local government know what joy a motorcycle can bring, touring along country roads with their scarfs flying in the wind... What's more, every year the city's sports centre organizes a succesful motorcycle tour in French-speaking Flanders. Motorcyclists are more than welcome here at Koksijde!
It is, however, not easy to welcome and provide accomodation for about 15,000 motorcyclis+s. Luckily, we have got the help from the experienced team from MAG, the military government gave their permission to use a part of the airbase for our formidable camping site, we have the understanding of the people that live in the immediate neighbourhood, sponsors gave their financial support and we can rely on the talent of numerous city services for the organization and the realization of this happening. To all these people: thank you very much!
A lot will happen these next three days! Test rides, motor stands, alternative stands, competitions, tours alongside important attractions in the Westhoek, endurorides, live bands etc. With this programme, we hope to be able to satisfy all participants and amateurs and we hope they will look back upon this festival with great pleasure.
Of course an event of this size will bring about extraordinary situations so to speak, there will be some nuisance. But all of the organizing parties are doing their best to limit this. They cannot do this alone, however, participants have to help! That is why we would like to ask you: please be careful, obey the police and listen to the people of the organization, do not leave behind any thrash, do not make useless or unnecessary noise, respect each other's night's rest...
Well, the local government and myself are convinced that the Festival of European Motorcycling in Koksijde will be a huge succes. This sporting event gives without a doubt a greater value to Koksijde's touristic programme.
